TMR MAINTAINS TARMAC 1-2

Evans and Millar continue top form at Targa Wrest Point.

TMR Australia cars maintain a solid 1-2 in the 2010 Australian Tarmac Championship after last weekend’s Targa Wrest Point, following a stunning duel for the Showroom class win.

Held around Hobart over 200km of competitive Targa stages, TMR Lancer Evolution Xs continued their pace-setting form, with the Yokohama Advan Evo X Club Spec of Dean Evans/Simone Bachmann and the Hyperactive Designs Evo X RS of Scott Millar/Chris Dean fighting for the win in the Showroom class.

After an event-long duel with the TMR-built Evo 9 RS of Tony Warren/Natasha Deniese, Evans won six of the 11 stages but eventually finished second in Showroom by just 20 seconds. “We’re stoked with that,” explained Evans, who was running the SST dual-clutch gearbox. “We drove it as hard as we could, and the Club Spec was faultless. The paddle-shift gearbox may not be the first ’box choice for motorsport, but I just love it! We know there’s a lot more potential in the car, so though we just missed the win, we know there’s more speed to come.” Evans/Bachmann finished 13th outright from the entire field of 150 cars, and maintain their lead in the 2010 Australian Tarmac Championship.

Millar/Dean’s Hyperactive Designs Evo X RS finished a solid 3rd in Showroom (22nd outright), after setting a brace of fast times throughout the weekend and finishing almost six minutes ahead of fourth place, the Queensland team holding second in the championship.

Proving the versatility of the Evo X and TMR’s tuning, the Rallimax Evo X of Max Williams/Bruce Bush finished a strong 10th in Modern, also running the dual-clutch SST gearbox.

TMR’s next outing is in two weekends to defend its back-to-back victories at the Bathurst 12 Hour on Feb 12-14, before heading to round three of the ATC at the Lake Mountain Sprint, Victoria, on March 20-21.

TMR take 1-2 at Mt Buller Sprints December 2009

Mitsubishi Evolutions prepared by TMR Australia have taken out first and second place at last weekend’s 2009 Pacific Hire Mt Buller Sprint.

Held in the Victorian ski town, the Mt Buller Sprint is Australia’s premier tarmac hillclimb event and attracted almost 80 entries from modern to classic.
The event was also the opening round of the 2010 Australian tarmac championship.
Over 10 stages of the 16km course, the TMR Australia built Evo X Club Spec of Dean Evans and Simone Bachmann claimed victory in the Showroom class and an impressive 10th outright, while Scott Millar and Chris Dean's Hyperactive Designs Evo X RS finished second in Showroom, completing a TMR 1-2.

Evans’ Club Spec ran the dual-clutch SST gearbox with paddle-shift and ran a best time of 8:56, while Millar's RS manual’s best time of 9:16 kept him in a solid second place.
“It took a little time to reprogram my brain and fingers, but I really learned to love the SST gearbox,” explained Evans. “With launch control it’s a rocket off the line every time, and given the immediate shifts, we’re picking up time over the manual with every shift – and at Mt Buller there must be more than 100 of those.”
The Club Spec is an entry level motorsport package for the Evo X that is designed and developed by TMR Australia. The package includes a bolt-in roll-cage, competition springs, TMR muffler and ECU retune from 217kW to 270kW.

Evans and Millar firmed part of a six-car TMR team, competing for honours in different categories.
One unfortunate casualty of the event was Glyn Crimp’s West Evo X that crashed on the final day and rolled down a steep embankment. However its structural integrity and TMR roll cage protected the crew and allowed them to walk away unharmed. TMR’s next major event will be the Bathurst 12 Hour in January, where it will attempt to defend its 2007/2009 wins.

2005

Ross Dunkerton winning the Targa West 2005 Tarmac Rally in an Evo 8 which was prepared and owned by TMR. In 2006 TMR built an Evo 9 for Ross to compete in the same event which he also won. Dunkerton went on to win the Novice rally section at the 2007 Targa Tasmania in the same Evo 9. This was a close-fought-out result with local Tarmac pecialist Jamie Vandenberg who was also in an Evo 9.

2006

Team Mitsubishi Ralliart first entered into selected tarmac rally events in 2006 with a Tarmac spec Evo9 driven by Warwick Rooklyn and co-driven by Linda Long.  The first event was Targa Tasmania where at one point Team Mitsubishi Ralliart was leading the event however finishing in 6th outright position (even after a 4 minute tyre replacement penalty) behind some very expensive Porsches and Lamborghini’s.
Team Mitsubishi Ralliart also participated in Rally of Burnie, Porsche Mt Buller Sprint, and Targa West Rally in Perth which we withdrew from with respect for the tragic death of Peter Brock.

In 2007 Team Mitsubishi Ralliart turned their attention to their EVO9 customer base that participated in various Tarmac Rallies, offering car builds, event support, servicing and repairs.
Projects included building a Tarmac-spec Evo9 for Tony Quinn of VIP Pet Foods who participated in Rally Burnie finishing with a credible 3rd outright placing. The same vehicle was prepared for his son Klark for the 2007 Mt Buller Sprint who finished 2nd outright.
